The Course in Complementary Therapies introduces the many disciplines that fall under the heading of ‘natural medicine’, including homeopathy, acupuncture, osteopathy and medical herbalism.
To work in the field of Complementary Therapy you don’t have to be an expert or practitioner in a specialist field. However, you do need a good working knowledge of all the different fields so you can explain alternative options to other people, advise them on an appropriate starting point and then help them with referrals to those who can provide the treatment they need.
You will find this Course invaluable if you are working, or planning to work, in the fields of natural medicine, herbal medicine or health foods. Or, perhaps, you already work in formal medicine and want to broaden your understanding of complementary therapies?
Highlights of this Course
- Reiki and homeopathy
- Finding and preparing a remedy
- Weight control
- Drug and alcohol abuse
People working in the field of complementary therapy are not necessarily experts or practitioners in any of these specialist fields. The Complementary Therapies Course will be of great value to those who are working or plan to work in the fields of natural medicine, herbal remedies or health foods. Furthermore, it will be of interest to many people involved in a formal medical environment who wish to broaden their understanding of complementary therapies. Indeed, the field is so interesting and relevant that many are eager to find out more simply out of concern for their own personal health and a desire to become wiser about alternative health care.

Homeopaths treat patients by stimulating the body's own healing powers with natural remedies. Homeopathy is based on the idea that 'like cures like' - that substances which cause symptoms can, in very small amounts, be used to cure or ease them. As a homeopath, you may see people experiencing problems ranging from headaches, fevers and stress to arthritis and eczema. You would treat the patient based on their lifestyle and emotional issues as well as their physical symptoms. You could see patients referred by their GP or on a private basis.
Consultations would usually involve: discussing the patient's symptoms and their wider life choosing an appropriate homeopathic remedy preparing and dispensing the remedy treating the client during visits, or explaining how they can treat themselves at home keeping detailed patient notes advising on wider health and lifestyle issues referring patients to other health practitioners if necessary. You would also deal with tasks involved in running your own business, such as accounts, tax, marketing and advertising your practice.
