Tutors & Authors

TUTORS

Who are our students?

Our students are usually adult learners, some of whom under-achieved in school and now wish to rectify that, and some who, whilst having a generally good academic background, now need a specific qualification to make progress in their career.

How Does Tutoring With Us work?

We provide the student with written course materials that have been developed to cover a particular subject, syllabus or specification. All of our course materials have regular activities and self-assessment tests.

Courses also include tutor-marked assignments (TMAs) which students will send to you for marking. Once you have marked an assignment, you return it to us and we will send the student a set of specimen answers together with their marked assignment.

Many of our courses include coursework which you will be expected to authenticate but not assess.

The success of eDistance Learning is based upon the contact made between tutor and student. We require all our tutors to make regular contact with their students. From past experience we know that this person-to-person contact is what keeps the student motivated and will eventually lead to their success in the examination.

How Are Tutors Paid?

Broadly speaking, we pay our tutors based on the assignments they mark and the telephone contact they make, thus the more help you give your students, the more you get paid.

Please note that our tutors are all self-employed, and the contract is for services provided by the tutor to us.

AUTHORS

We are always on the lookout for experienced specialist authors of distance learning materials.

What We Require In An Author

Authors are required to write new courses or, more often, to revise and update existing courses. Specifications change regularly and it is necessary to adapt existing materials for new purposes. In addition, we have a policy of continuous improvement for all courses.

Experience & Skills

Authors must be subject specialists with a number of years experience of teaching their subject, also some experience as a published writer. Familiarity with the latest specifications is expected. Word-processing and page-layout skills are also an asset. Experience in developing courses for an online environment (e.g. Moodle) is also valuable.

How Are Authors Paid?

Authors are employed on a part-time, freelance basis to undertake specific commissions for a set fee. The fee is negotiated between the author and our editorial department. eDistance Learning retains the copyright on all the developed materials.

We welcome expressions of interest from specialist authors in all the academic subjects we currently offer.
